RainCycle Rainwater Harvesting Software Now
Available for FREE Download
In March 2009 we took the decision to allow FREE distribution
of RainCycle, our flagship software application. RainCycle is a state-of-the-art
computer simulation of rainwater harvesting systems and can be used
to assess the water and cost saving potential of these devices. It is
applicable to most types of modern systems such as those typically installed
in residential, commercial and institutional buildings. RainCycle has
been used in several academic research projects and has been the subject
of a peer-reviewed paper. Visit the Freeware
Section in order to download the software.

Rainwater Harvesting PhD Thesis
Our managing director has recently completed a PhD entitled
"A Whole Life Costing Approach for Rainwater Harvesting Systems".
Not only is this an important contribution to the field, it will also
be of use to anyone interested in or researching the topic. The thesis
presents a thorough overview of contemporary rainwater harvesting as
well as detailed chapters on modelling approaches, optimising storage
tank size, assessment of system performance, operation/maintenance issues
and financial analysis. Hundreds of references and extensive data sets
make the thesis an invaluable source of information.

Freeware Section Unveiled
As part of our continuing commitment to promoting the use of
sustainable drainage techniques, we have chosen to make some of our
own in-house applications available for download free of charge. See
the new Freeware Section for further details.

RainCycle v2.0 Launched
RainCycle is a state-of-the-art rainwater harvesting hydraulic
and whole life costing assessment tool. It is the product of several
years of active research in the fields of sustainable water management
/ sustainable drainage systems. In response to feedback provided by
industry and clients RainCycle has undergone a major upgrade. RainCycle
v2.0 retains all the functionality of previous versions and now also
includes the following features:
-
User-definable analysis period of between
2-100 years
-
Monte Carlo simulation for comprehensive risk
and uncertainty analysis
-
Greater flexibility in the types of systems
that can be modelled
-
Two types of automatically generated reports
available: basic and full
-
Ability to change currency type: $, £, € or
“user-defined”
-
Improved interface: easier to use and enhanced
support
-
Complies with current UK best practice guidance
list of features.
Further, each RainCycle license now comes with two
copies of the application: RainCycle Advanced© and RainCycle Standard©.
The Advanced edition is the full version of the application whilst
the Standard edition is a simplified version more suited to performing
quick assessments e.g. for feasibility purposes or if a client does
not require a detailed study. RainCycle represents the most comprehensive
hydraulic and financial assessment commercially available for rainwater
harvesting systems. The table below shows a comparison between the
widely used “rule-of-thumb” approaches and RainCycle.

and decommissioning costs)
-
Scenario modelling - capable of modelling
thousands of system variations for any given design
-
Built-in tank size optimisation and sensitivity
analysis routines
-
Easy to use and attractive user-interface
-
Automatically generates reports for modelled
systems
